DyVa Fortunes by HITOKOO

from 150.00

We invite you to become a part of our small, dedicated community to use the power of tuning in for more humane decision-making. You will not simply be collectors of handmade art, you will be co-collaborators in this movement. We have committed to creative collaborations that use art, fashion and engaged participation to make the world better, one experience at a time. The Yield and Listen Fortunes are the fourth project that we've co-created and they all have the same fundamental objective in common:: we cultivate sensual beauty and pleasure in everyday life with high craftsmanship, instigational narratives and an element of surprise.

Your Yield and/or Listen Fortune set comes in a gallery box that can live at your bedside, near your front door, in your workspace. They can be integrated into rituals, gatherings and your writing processes. We get really excited about the fortunes because it is paramount that we created something beautiful and pragmatic to support your inspiration, connection to others, and to your more humane way of seeking what is true for you. When you get your fortunes, you may find yourself pulling them out and integrating them into family gatherings, or keeping them in your meditation area or altar. We hope you trust it when you feel compelled to send one to a friend or family member, or share your set with another in a moment of contemplation or life changing transition. We made these sculptures for tuning your energy, making humane decisions and taking a moment in sensual beauty to orient yourself and to support others.

25 numbered limited edition sets of five fortunes each in two themes: YIELD and LISTEN.

Each five-fortune set may include:: raw silk, leather, snakeskin, satin shell with paper messages which are typed on a vintage typewriter. Vegan fortunes available (click order button for options).

Individual fortunes are approximately 2" x  3" x 2" and are housed in a 5"x5" white gallery box lined with handmade momigami paper.

"I come from activists, artists and a long line of instigators who were committed to getting to the heart of the real question and staying with it, in community, until it was answered to their satisfaction. This beautiful Fortune work is dedicated to my lineage and made to support  our community so we can be tenacious seekers. Let us not rest until we answer our real questions."

"I'm a fashion designer and textile artist and create conceptual series that address political and cultural narratives in handmade, limited quantities. My work serves to align collectors and wearers with their core identities and drive empowered communications within themselves and with the world around them. These fortunes were made to be an interactive, communal activity in the continuous quest for truth."

We came together in 2012 as admirers of each other's work and immediately started co-creating projects, and sharing our innermost visions. Within one month, we did our first piece of experiential work together, the JOY project. The Fortunes are along those same lines, and the first we have made public. We both feel strongly that our work, even as individual creators, is in service to aligning our collectors, clients and collaborators with their truth. We believe having our outsides and creations be coherent with who we really are on the inside. The Fortune project is a combination of our aesthetics, our family and craft lineages and marries Hitoko's fortune design with Dyana's logo elements (designed by Steve Gordon, Jr. at RDQLUS.com) and writing.

The significance of these being handmade is that we're connecting something inanimate, an object, a thing, a symbol of your investigation and connecting it to all of us as humans. It was conceived, constructed, manipulated by us integrating our stories, our histories. We have built upon the history of traditional fortune cookies, which have been spiritual symbolic offerings of luck, ritual, and have now transitioned into casual delight.  Throughout history, fortune cookies have been used as a method to spread gospel, thank supporters, and distribute Confucian aphorisms. We've have applied that symbolic participatory practice and modified it into a non-perishable, communal invitation to seek and celebrate truth

Ours differ from perishable versions in that they are not meant to be broken or consumed. The fortune shell remains a permanent symbol and talisman of your quest for truth. The fortune messages may be interpreted in myriad ways and over time as you change and your questions deepen. We chose sensuous materials because they are perfect to inspire a visceral, tactile response to the process of diving deep into what is true for you. We deliberately use metallics and icons that represent our shining gifts and deeply held philosophies.  The message fits inside the shell. The fortunes rest together in a mystical set of five, which is an auspicious number in Japanese Buddhism. The five rest in a clean white box and we dedicate the box with a written invocation to stimulate your quest. The box is lined with momigami (handmade paper treated with konnyaku and traditionally used to line kimonos) as an homage to Hitoko's craft artisan lineage. In the conjuring of these sets, we wanted to be open to what new direction might come next for our work together, so we limited the number to twenty five sets each of Yield and Listen. We have created a window of experience that comes with a specific, limited invitation. We have done what we now ask you to do: tune in, choose a movement, and trust what is next for you.
